ZimTrade engages green peas farmers

ZimTrade is engaging green peas farmers across the country with a view to increase production to meet international demand of the horticultural produce which is currently in short supply in the European market.

In a bid to clinch a niche market of peas in the European market, ZimTrade through its partnership with a Netherlands based organisation, PUM,  is engaging farmers across the country to increase production.

The visiting peas expert, Mr Rein Kilstra from Netherlands met farmers in four provinces last week to assess their strengths and weaknesses regarding the production of horticultural produce.

There is need to find ways of utilising water bodies within some of the farming areas considering that there potential within some of the communities is washed away by failure to utilise available water bodies says Mr Kielstra.

Fiscal authorities have noted the need to remove export restrictions in the form of permits as part of the ease of doing business.

Under the mid-term fiscal review statement, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Cde Patrick Chinamasa said government is working with identified partners from Europe and China in supporting small scale farmers to promote horticultural production. Source: Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation
