For the third consecutive year, ZimTrade will facilitate local companies to participate in the Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show (ZACS), to take place in Lusaka from 2-7 August 2017. Twelve (12) local companies will participate and showcase products in the following categories; building and construction materials, footwear, clothing, jewellery, foundry products, beverages, agricultural chemicals, fertilisers and timber, among others.
ZACS is a multi-sectoral event, which showcases products from a cross-section of sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, automotive and financial services. The theme for the 2017 show is “Promoting A Green Economy”, in line with the UN global call for sustainable development without degrading the environment. In 2016, the event attracted exhibitors and visitors from countries such as Namibia, South Africa, Germany, Botswana, Nigeria, Italy, Egypt, Pakistan, Kenya and Tanzania.
Zimbabwe and Zambia are part of SADC and COMESA Trade Agreements, which allow for duty free and preferential treatment into each other’s market, for qualifying products. Zambia is the fourth largest export destination for Zimbabwean products accounting for 3.4% and 2.5% of total exports in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Zimbabwe’s major exports to Zambia in 2016 were products such as plastic and plastic products; agricultural equipment and implements; paper and wood products; medicaments; alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; chemicals as well as fertilisers.
The two countries share a common history that bears many similarities in terms of their culture. Zimbabwean companies are, therefore, urged to take advantage of the good relations and increase their market share in the Zambian market.
